Homer Historical Society Cemetery Lists
The Homer Historical Society in 2021 and 2022 audited two cemeteries - The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) cemetery with over 3600 burials and
the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Broadlands with over 360 burials. These audits verified each burial and made comparisons with obituaries, vital records, cemetery records
and oral information. The Immanuel Lutheran cemetery has been given a numbering system conforming to sections and rows, numbering each burial.
They have not been identified in this way before.
In 2023 the Homer Historical Society is auditing Lost Grove, Lynn Grove and Patterson cemeteries. Confusion between the cemeteries necessitated and audit of each. All are pioneer cemeteries and
confusion over who is buried where motivated us to audit more cemeteries. The DAR readings are the starting point for the lists but county death records, newspapers, legal records and another reading of the cemeteries was necessary. We intend to post these new lists as we work on the audits.
We have included Molly Spencer Shoaf's cemetery list of Bodkin dating from 2011.
